Soft Drink Ad Wars again!
Posted by Prashanth | Filed under Commercial Clips, I think therefore I watch
Remember I had criticized Pepsi’s Youngistan Ad campaign a while ago? Looks like people at PepsiCo. India have read that post and are improvising better on the word Youngistan and giving out better ads which still don’t say anything Pepsi’s refreshing taste or feel!
And after getting themselves embarrassed by Coca-Cola with the spoof made by Sprite, PepsiCo. did have its ego suffering inside a deep coal(read Coke :D) mine. They had to prey on someone, someone week enough to just bring back that lost pride… Well, Thums Up, with those wild parkour and really dumb car drive ads that too featuring Akshay Kumar (Hindi) and Mahesh babu (Telugu) dose promote its beverage with some passion. So there you have it, Pepsi had found its bakra (Read: Hindi for a goat about to be slaughtered!) in Thums Up and the whole soft drink war has become a lot more entertaining.
Have a look at the ad as well as the original ad that was spoofed below…

Expect more spoofs like these coming up in the near future. Looks like I do have a reason to watch TV these days, eh? ![]()
Pepsi vs. Coke, the war of the millenium…

Yep, I really mean what I said. Even after Afghanistan and the United States unify to become one nation, even if Lebanon and Somalia forget stuff like refugee-ism and bombing, even after words like Jihad and extermination get out of memory, this is one war that would live as long as one of the aforementioned corporations closes down, which seems to be a distant dream thanks to the expensive publicity done by these guys.
Speaking of publicity, heard of the new Youngistan campaign of Pepsi? Of course you should have as it features Deepika Padukone for guys, SRK for girls and Ranbir Kapoor for the rest! As you can see, they have spent a whole lot of money on this highly uncreative but super expensive ad campaign. Although says nothing about how refreshing or tasty Pepsi can be, it is still worth a look. Just makes me take back words I said about Indian advertisement industry.
Here you go - Yeh Hai Youngistan meri jaan! (Bullshit!)

Really stupid advertisement in my humble opinion. I guess the ad agency that proposed such a dumb plot ought to be punished. Well, Coke decided to do the needy job though with an absolutely brilliant satire in their no-nonsense advertisement for their no-nonsense drink - Sprite! Check it up below -

Not just it made fun of the irrelavent concept coke used to make the ad, but also made good fun of stars who filled the ad. I have always loved the Sprite Ads, they are really clever and fun, and totally get the point across. I guess that’s the whole purpose of an advertisement. A simple low budget ad made total fun of the star-studded one. Coke .Pepsi and all other big drink brands have mocked each other previously, with instances like Sprite mocking Pepsi TV ads starred by Kareena and Priyanka…
Anyway, Pepsi and Coke wars have been mocked by third parties as well, the most memorable being a scene in the movie Kabul Express when John Abraham licks a leaking fluid coming out of a fallen tanker in the middle of a war-zone in the hope of finding some fuel for his SUV. He is surprised to find it to be Pepsi! Then Arshad Warsi decides to verify the same fact and an argument almost starts off whether it is Coke or Pepsi. Right, I am no connoisseur too, as I can’t really make out great differences between the two drinks, without having 42 sips of each of it subsequently one after the other. Hey, that seems to be an interesting idea this summer…
So well, all it means to say is that Indian advertisements are becoming the biggest challengers to Indian TV shows. I am talking to you Ekta Kapoor & everyone in Star, Sony, and Zee networks i.e the boring Indian entertainment industry!
PS: I am waiting…
How did the ape rule the world?
Posted by Prashanth | Filed under Commercial Clips, Headshot
The ape that I am talking about is the primordial ape or the great-great grand-dad of most of those reading this post. Just how did he come up to so much prominence, after all, he wasn’t anything more than a stupid ape, wasn’t he? The answer is evolving intelligence. A detailed and easy-to-understand explanation lies in this video below…

That was actually the new Mentos ad which although didn’t successfully market the mint but did glorify its tag-line - “Dimaak ki batti jala de” or Turns the lights of the brain on! So well, one of the possible answers to the theories of evolution, Darwinism, and intelligent life is the fact that the ancestors could have by accident consumed something that might have enhanced their mental capacity. As there shouldn’t really be any distinction between the most primitive mammals, the lucky ones might have got hold of a diet or a habit which increased their learning or mental adaptive capabilities. These habits passed on across generations to continuously fine tune the newly found skills and finally create something known as intelligence…
Anyway, too much rubbish with just an ad… I better go off to sleep. I have been living on a 5 hr sleep schedule since a very long time. Now that (almost) all nearby burdens have gone past, I can sit down on a secretive and mystical project code named: 600 Mirrors… (Updates later, so stay tuned fed!)
PS- For those who didn’t get the PJ in the parenthesis, I was referring to RSS Feeds as this is not a program on a radio channel. If you don’t know what that is, Go boil your head here! (Now where did I rip that from?)
