The LuminaR now wants a PulsaR…

Hey, that was a neat title, wasn’t it? It rhymed… Anyway this is the first time (in this month) that an advertisement stirred me up so much that I could actually post a review on it. The best thing about posting ad reviews is that following the proportionality rule which says, the length of the post is directly proportional to the length of the film is very easy. Besides that, this kind of content is actually something not found in great abundance across the cyberspace. What this post of the little known kind wants to do is follow the name of the blog for atleast once… I am sure that most people who are currently giving in their bored exams i.e Uma have not been watching TV. So as a Luminary, I proceed to shed light on this motion picture about which I had nothing to complain…
Bajaj Pulsar, as most n00bs would know it, is one of those bikes just to see which, n00bs buy magazines such as BIKE India which actually exist! Yep, its the same bike towards which all coconuts turn as soon as it passes by. Forget dumb Indian bike enthusiasts, even the higher order intellectual sort kind of adore that bike. I myself gawk into the Bajaj ProBiking showroom near Priya whenever I go to that place. Oh well, high power imported bikes have started coming to India lately and its time Indian biking companies look beyond fulfilling the basic needs of transport and give these guys some run for their money. One way they can do this is by making bikes which are actually competitive to the bikes coming soon. Since this is a task they aren’t capable of accomplishing, we move to a skill which India has been lately mastering - Advertising. Thats the best way to catch n00by customers unaware…!
Presenting the ad which compelled the ever lazy procrastinator Prashanth Kanduri to actually make a blog post…

Everything was just perfect in the ad. The best part was that it didn’t involve any actors at all. The basic idea is to showcase all kinds of bike stunts a Bajaj Pulsar bike is capable of accomplishing. Although it may seem clinched and some of you might just wander off, let me tell you that there is more to this video than just n00b candy…
For instance, have a look hear at the soundtrack. Notice how well it blends with the entire scene there. Starts of with humming acoustic guitar mellows when nothing dramatic happens which steadily picks up rhythm as the wheels start turning or looking up. Then come the heavy electric solo which races the viewers’ pulse to actually feel the engine’s torque. I could literally watch the ad in a loop just to hear the soundtrack… Simply delicious… best served along with this video.
Now look at the camera work. While you had one biker in a wheelie, you had a camera which had homed its eyes on the bike as well. Think about it, there were instances where it felt that a few cameras were attached to the bikes themselves and recorded footage as each bike went past another. There were brilliant overhead shots which must have happened over a span of 42 retakes. Timing was something which was worth a smile with admiration…

Even though it was lacking the “Hamara Bajaj” track in the background, the ad seemed vintage Bajaj. Remember the rooftop biking ad by the same people? I appreciated that ad too because of its raw camera footage rather than discontinuous frames which inevitably make us tween the missing frames to visualize that ourselves. Also, very little CGI has been used here. Most of the stunts were real life performances, unlike those John Abraham loaded Yamaha Ads. These two ads saved us from the hard work of tweening frames by actually doing it by themselves and presenting it in such a classy way. Anyway, this ad and many more are worthy of an applaud. Other Indian biking companies blow money on hiring expensive actors say Hrithik to make sucky ads. Some waste cash by making long-haired people like Dhoni speak some trash and finally you have an ad which you wish never came. I even liked the Bajaj XCD ad and its special effects where the bike slowly evolves from nothing to something that looks better than the actual thing… If ads like these were any greater in abundance, I would think before changing the channel during a commercial break…
PS: Actually the best sort of publicity goes to Hero Honda for making MTV Roadies… That is loads better than watching Hrithik do really dumb ads after the impressive biking scenes in Dhoom:2!
