Indian Rock.. where’s it going..??

A correction to the title.. Indian “Sub-continent” Rock.. where is it going..??
I inserted the word ’sub-continent’ over there because its primarily Pakistani bands which i find more soothing to my ears these days…
I am not just speaking about the excessively popular Paki bands like Jal or Strings.. I am speaking about the slightely elusive newer bands which have come up… not just in Pak.. but also in Bangladesh and Indian colleges and universities.
Few bands which came to my attention lately were.. Raeth, and many Indian Bands whose list you can see over here.
So, this is my current playlist… in visuals..
Rock music in India really never surfaced before it sunk again. The reason for this was that bands were not able to establish their own identities by playing originals. It started plummeting further when Hindi pop music took the stage with women baring themselves. Indian record companies created hype promoting them.
Indian Rock Bands have always concentrated on the International scene rather than on the national level. This helps the bands unconsciously create a huge local fan following. Few bands like Orange Street, Thermal and a Quarter have braved the scenario scene and played only originals. They have made it quite big on the national level.
The prime music channels in India are MTV and Channel V. Due to the change in the music Industry at the national level, both these channels play film music and Hindi pop music most of the time. They do not support local rock bands in any way. Even radios dont broadcast songs by these bands.
The Hindustan Times Youth Nexus and alike are the only platforms where Indian Rock gets its place to popularise itself.. unlike Pakistan where rock bands and gigs from colleges etc are picked up by music companies as they know that they would earn a lot.. but over here, the companies prefer making albums of silly Punjabi Rappers.. and stupid singers.. (Think of this song - “Tum Toh Tehre Pardesi.. Saath Kya Nibhaaoge..”)
You can say that one would get a shoe on the face if that person would sing any of these songs even on the railway station platform begging..
They are a complete insult to music.. but still some Indians like it.. and hence they are still popular..
Coming back to the HT Youth Nexus.. which would be a place to be for youngsters.. Rock compitions and songs completely unheard.. live performances from bands like Parikrama, Moksha, Them Clones, Tantrikz.. and some good Indian singers as well..!!
Held from 20th-22nd of December.. this will be a fest where i would try to go.. (a review would be positively here just in case I go there..)
For more on Gigs.. and Bands.. please visit here.. and then encourage something that truly deserves it..
So today, I was at DPS Vasant Kunj attending Code Wars 2006.. more on it tommorow.. Stay Connected..

After nearly 50 years.. mankind has succeeded in driving another aquatic mammal to functional extinction.. after the Japanese Sea Lion..

Yes.. I am talking about the White Dolphin found only in the Yangtze River in China from nearly 20 million years.. Also known as Baiji.. this special species of Dolphin is nearly blind and navigates through the murky waters of the mighty Yangtze using echo-location..!!
In a six week survey concluding on the 4th of December, no Baiji were seen in the area.. So its concluded that it is not present in sufficient number to reproduce.. or in other words “functionally extinct”..!!
This isnt just a big loss for china but the entire world as well.. we have lost a race.. a species surviving from 20 million years and insufficient conservation measures may bring the same fate to many other Chinese species.. such as the Giant Panda.. the Yangtze Finless Porpoise.. and many more around the world..!!
What’s mankind leading to afterall..?? Views on this saddening tale are welcome..
..
